How to set up your session

Every unit already comes loaded with a kaloud, so you won't need foil. Here's how to get the most out of it — and how to keep the session safe.

Know your setup

The parts in your box

Base

Holds the water that cools and filters the smoke.

Stem & bowl

The stem seats into the base; the bowl on top holds your flavor.

Kaloud

Sits on the bowl and manages heat — no foil needed.

Coconut coal

Natural, slow-burning, and included — goes on top of the kaloud.

Step by step

Setting up, start to finish

  1. Fill the base

Add cold water (ice makes for a smoother pull) until the stem sits about 2cm below the surface. Too high chokes the draw; too low won't filter properly.

  2. Seat the stem

Push the stem into the base until it seats against the grommet with a gentle twist — no wobble, no whistling air leaks.

  3. Load the bowl

Break the flavor up by hand and sprinkle it in loosely, level with the rim. Packing it tight or piling it into a dome starves the airflow and scorches the top layer.

  4. Cap with the kaloud

Set the kaloud over the loaded bowl. It regulates heat on its own, so there's no foil to poke or manage.

  5. Light the coals properly

Use the stove add-on or a coil burner — never a naked flame or gas ring directly on the coal. Natural coconut coal needs 6–8 minutes until it's fully grey-ashed and glowing; a coal that's still black in the middle won't heat evenly.

  6. Place & rotate

Once ashed over, use the tongs (never your hands) to set the coals evenly on the kaloud. Rotate them every 10–15 minutes for an even burn.

  7. Purge before the first pull

Detach the hose and blow — don't inhale — a short breath through it to clear stale air, then reconnect.

  8. Fresh tip, every person

Attach a clean mouthpiece each time the hose changes hands.

Precautions

Do's and don'ts for a better session

Do

  • Use the natural coconut coal we supply, not quick-light charcoal — cleaner burn, no chemical taste.
  • Set up somewhere with real airflow — a balcony, garden, or open patio.
  • Keep a glass of water or sand near the coals, just in case.
  • Check your coals regularly — if the smoke turns harsh or hot, lift one off for a minute.
  • Use a fresh mouthpiece for every person on the hose.

Don't

  • Set up in a closed room, tent, or car — lit coal produces carbon monoxide, and it builds up fast indoors.
  • Leave lit coals unattended, especially near kids, pets, or anything flammable.
  • Rest coals directly on a table, carpet, or wooden surface — always on the kaloud or a heatproof base.
  • Pack or dome the bowl above the rim — it restricts airflow and burns the flavor.
  • Share a mouthpiece between people without swapping the tip.

Know the risks. Shisha isn't a risk-free alternative to cigarettes — a single session can expose you to nicotine, tar, and carbon monoxide, sometimes more than one cigarette delivers. Sessions are for over-18s only; skip it if you're pregnant or have a heart or lung condition, and always smoke somewhere ventilated.
